The darkling beetle (Tenebrio molitor) is a beetle species native to Korea.
mealworm is the affectionate name given to its larva, the mealworm, selected in 2015 through a public contest organized by the Rural Development Administration.
The name was chosen as it evokes little aversion while stimulating appetite.
